Dental care options vary in their approach to improving smiles and enhancing the dental health of a patient. One treatment option may be better for you than another, or your dentist may find that a combination of treatments is best to meet your unique needs. Below are some of the most common cosmetic and restorative dentistry treatments that are used to enhance smiles.

Teeth Whitening

A number of different foods, beverages, and additional factors (such as smoking and the use of antibiotics) can cause your teeth to become stained or discolored. Teeth whitening can brighten your smile by multiple shades and give you a smile to be proud of.

Porcelain Veneers

If you have teeth that are slightly misaligned, chipped, discolored, or gapped, one option that your dentist may consider is porcelain veneers. These ceramic shells cover the front of your flawed teeth, giving the appearance of an exceptional smile.

Dental Implants

If you are missing a tooth or several teeth, your smile will certainly suffer. Your surrounding teeth may even become misaligned due to the spaces left behind by your missing teeth. Dental implants involve the placement of artificial tooth roots into your jawbone and gum tissue. Anchored there securely, the artificial tooth roots are capped with a realistic artificial tooth.

Oral surgery will be required to place the dental implants. It should also be noted that rather than just replacing a single tooth, dental implants may be used to anchor dentures or dental bridges in place.

Dental Crowns

If you have a tooth that is severely damaged or decayed, dental crowns can help protect it and restore its appearance to normal. Also referred to as a cap, the dental crown goes on top of the severely damaged or decayed tooth. Crowns come in different varieties, and your dentist will help determined which is best suited for you.

Invisalign®

Teeth that are severely crooked or misaligned will require some form of orthodontic work. Rather than using traditional metal braces, some dentists opt instead to use Invisalign®, a system that uses clear plastic aligners in order to straighten teeth. One of the great advantages of Invisalign® is that few will be able to tell that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
