Preventative and Family Dentistry - WESTCHESTER COUNTY, ROCKLAND COUNTY, AND ORANGE COUNTY, NEW YORK

At County Dental, we are committed to helping our patients maintain their healthy and beautiful smiles for a lifetime. We provide a thorough preventative and family dentistry program at our offices throughout New York and surrounding areas including the Hudson Valley, Poughkeepsie, Rockland County, and Orange County. We provide all members of the family with preventative dentistry options to help them avoid cavities, gum disease, and the need for extensive dental care in the future.

Exams and X-rays

Routine dental exams are a big part of maintaining a healthy smile. At County Dental, we offer comprehensive dental exams for the entire family as part of our preventative dentistry program. At each exam, we check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other potential problems that require treatment. X-rays of your mouth may also be taken during your dental exam. We provide both traditional x-rays and digital x-rays that immediately produce a digital image that can be viewed during your visit on our computer screens in each operatory.

Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is a plastic coating that is placed on the teeth to form a protective barrier that prevents cavities and decay. Sealants are especially beneficial when placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, which are the most difficult to clean. Dental sealants are most commonly recommended for children; however, some adults may benefit from this preventative measure as well.

Soft Tissue Management

As one of our family dentistry options at our Poughkeepsie, Rockland County, Orange County, and other New York locations, we offer a comprehensive soft tissue management program (STMP). This hygiene maintenance program is designed to prevent periodontal (gum) disease and treat any existing infections in order to establish good oral health.

During your initial examination, we will look for common warning signs of periodontal disease and evaluate the condition of the gums, noting any recession, bleeding, or bone loss. We will also evaluate your risk factors for gum disease, such as diabetes, smoking, and the use of certain medications. If you do exhibit signs of gum disease, we will create a customized treatment plan to reduce the infection and reverse the progression of the disease. Unlike other practices that refer you elsewhere for periodontal treatment, County Dental has an experienced periodontist on staff who is available at all of our New York locations. Contact our family dentistry practice with offices in Poughkeepsie, Orange County, Rockland County, and other New York areas to schedule a periodontal examination today.

What is Halitosis? Can dental care prevent bad breath?

Halitosis is better known as bad breath. We are not talking about bad breath caused by eating highly flavored or seasoned foods. Bad breath is mainly caused by a bacterial infection in the mouth, stomach, lungs, and sinuses, as well as tooth decay. For most, mouthwashes and thorough tooth brushing will not eliminate the problem because the problem goes much deeper. Additionally, one of the first signs of gum problems is halitosis. If treated properly by a dentist the gum problem may be controlled and the bad breath will decrease.

Halitosis is not limited to patients with natural teeth. Even individuals with dentures complain about it. Improper cleaning of dentures or bridgework, dental decay, as well as dry mouth can contribute to bad breath. Regular dental checkups and effective cleaning of teeth, dentures or bridgework can prevent bad breath.
